Kazakhstan builds on creative economy

The Government will create the conditions conducive to engaging in creative business and ensure easy access to foreign commodity markets.

On June 14, a working group meeting on the development of creative industries chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov took place at the Government of Kazakhstan. The working group reviewed the proposals of the state agencies on identifying the creative types of economic activity, the press office of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The working group identified the clusters of innovation and creative industries in accordance with the UN recommendations. Over 50 types of activity in 14 areas of the General Classification of Types of Economic Activity were selected at the proposals of the Ministry of Economy and the Office for National Statistics.

These include design, art, fashion, film industry, television, music, information technology and cultural education, among other areas.

A venture fund of creative industries will be established at Kazyna Capital Management JSC to support specialised businesses. The first two ‘pioneer clusters’ that will combine efforts of creative individuals will open their doors in the capital city and Almaty.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that the community that possessed high-quality intellectual capital to develop innovation and unique economy was living, studying and working in Kazakhstan. The time had come to create the conditions conducive to engaging in creative entrepreneurship and ensure easy access to foreign commodity markets, Smailov said.
