US virologist puts Dushanbe among COVID-19-safest cities

Co-President at the Institute for International Health and Education in New York Arash Alaei comments on the factors contributing to a favourable epidemiological situation in Tajikistan.

On June 13, Co-President at the Institute for International Health and Education in New York Arash Alaei noted in an interview with the Khovar State News Agency that Dushanbe was one of the three cities in the world that had had the best responses to the coronavirus pandemic.

These cities include Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan and Dakar, the capital of Senegal. According to him, the foresight of the local authorities had contributed to improving the epidemiological situation in these cities. He emphasised that the Government had taken the timely measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

Alaei added that fresh air, natural food and sunshine had an important role to play in this process.

Earlier, the virologist had stated that that Tajikistan managed to eliminate coronavirus for three reasons – the wise policy of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic, citizens’ attitude and awareness of the threat and the effective informative role of the mass media in face of the coronavirus disease.

As of June 13, the number of infected citizens in the country totalled 13,308. 90 coronavirus patients died. No new coronavirus cases have been recorded since the beginning of the year.
